I was lucky enough to be not only the Marriage Celebrant but also photographers assistant to Johnny and then they were crazy enough talk me into being their MC at their reception as well.

If you look through the gallery at the end of this post you will soon understand why we were the perfect match on all accounts.

It all started at a 16th birthday party, Monette was the photographer and Mitch…well, we don’t know what a 19-year-old was doing at a 16th birthday party, but anyway. They caught each other’s eye but were both too proud to say hi.  Mitch thought this tall, beautiful brunette, must be at least 25!

The father reveal, always an emotional one.

Enter stage left, a mutual friend, this friend wanted to introduce them, but both declined. Said friend eventually physically picked Mon up off the ground and dumped her in front of Mitch and forced them to meet and converse..

Conversation flowed easily enough, there was a little spark, so Monette was a little miffed Mitch didn’t ask for her number at the end of the night when they said bye.Our strong woman turned back to ask him if he had Facebook so they could keep in touch.

She then made Mitch send a friend request so he could wait for her acceptance. She was playing the long game and made him wait until the very next day before she clicked ‘accept friend request’ and mitch was playing the short by accepting immediately and sending a message seconds later.

From the day they met at that party, there wasn’t a day they weren’t messaging each other. This led to casual catch ups along with and Mitch being Mon’s taxi everywhere as she didn’t have her licence at the time. They were “just friends” for a couple of months, when messaging each other everyday turned into seeing each other every day.

So, when did this casual friendship lead to more than friends? Glad you asked…singles listen to how it’s done.

It was over a Parma and chips at good old Lazy Moe’s where Mitch leaned in and asked Monette to ‘go with him’ translation ‘be his girlfriend’.!!! It was Mon’s 18th birthday

He said to me “I was so nervous at first then a kiss from a beautiful woman makes everything better”. They were officially boyfriend and girlfriend.

How’s that thumb of approval from Dad!!

Once the lust dust settles, we sit back a have a really good think about our chosen mate, is this the very same person who I will travel through life with all the way to the old folks home where he will wear his pants too high and she starts dying her hair purple and for these two it was a no brainer

Here I am making Monette and Mitch all relaxed and happy

Always touching.

Monette told me it took a few months to ‘fall in love’ with Mitch. WithMitch being the first one to say “I love you”, drunk! At the 3-month mark of being together.

She believes drunk minds speak sober thoughts!! She fell in love with his company, which she enjoyed immensely, you thought he was so much fun to be around.

Monette loves that Mitch is always positive, bubbly and ready to have a good time with anyone he is around. Over the years he had shown to always be so supportive of everything Monette has wanted to do or try or pursue in life.Mon loves that she and Mitch share the same life goals and dreams, big or small. Mitch you are a great compromiser, and Monette knows that you would do anything for her.

Drunk Mitch can’t tell me when exactly falling in love happened for him, but he can absolutely say he fell in love with such a kind sweet hearted person, always thinking about others and you Monette, care more than you show. He loves that you are such a strong independent woman, he thinks its kind of sexy sometimes when you take charge, a woman that knows what she wants!

He too loves that you both have the same vision and are on the same wavelength.

He told me “nothing feels better than connecting with your partner and the energy just bounces off each other”

You love being around friends, you guys love a good movie and Netflix binging, spoiling yourselves to a nice dinner chilling on the couch and of course being with your dogs.

They say they polar opposite in many ways. Mitch is the saver, good with numbers with Mon says numbers are gibberish and she is definitely the spender, Mitch says the women has taste but that comes with a price tag (a big one).

Mon is definitely the messier and lazier one.

Mon is a home body not a party girl and a cheap drunk. Mitch says he is the crazy one, bit of an adrenaline junky, where Mon would rather sleep or sit in bed watching movies all day.

They both have a very strong work ethic as they both strive to try and do their best so in the future, they can provide not just for themselves but for their family.

What I adore about you guys is that you love to just keep it simple, you both say that there is nothing worse than to complicate things that don’t need to be.

Mitch would always say “I’m never getting married, I don’t believe it in. I’m just happy to be together and have kids”

Monette would always reply “Well, I know I’m getting married, whether it’s to you or not, I don’t know what you’re doing, you know where the door is.” But he never disagreed enough to leave!

When they started looking for engagement rings, they lightly touched on looking at getting a ring made overseas as it would have more of a story to it (and be a lot cheaper says Mitch!) They booked Europe, agreed to look around in Dubai at the end of their trip. They found the ring, they scraped the bottom of the barrel of their ‘Europe spending fund’ and the rest of their savings to get what they wanted and when I say ‘they’ we all know I mean ‘she’

The ring was dropped off by the jeweller at their hotel before they went on their desert safari. Mon asked Mitch if he was going to propose to her in the desert so they could get a pretty picture. He said, “No, if you want a romantic proposal from me, I’m taking the ring back to Aus so you won’t know when to expect it, so you’ll have to wait. So, of course, Mon took the ring then and there because she couldn’t wait, and she really wanted a picture with the ring in the Desert!
